Concept Art.

A way I kept my mind refreshed with my work and the projects we completed was to draw out multiple concepts of what Le Prince did throughout his life. I also drew him to what I think he would’ve looked like as a drawing.  As there are not many physical images of him, and the ones that do exist have almost no difference in expression.

For my concept art, I decided to give Le Prince more expression in his movements to show more emotional side to him. I also added a wavy texture into his hair as I felt that it should match the wildness of his expressions, and also for it to be a contrast to the original images of him. I kept the colours and shades as consistent as I could in each image as if it were a series of images in a finished piece. I used yellow as an outlining colour for Le Prince as it contrasts with the darker colours of his clothes, and also to represent his inner self and his creativeness. In the last two images I added a second outline in black ink to represent more of his inner fears and paranoia manifesting into reality. As I was researching into Le Prince's life I discovered that he became increasingly worried about other people stealing his ideas and so I wanted to show how that would of developed as a drawn out image.

The image below I think is one of the better ones that I made as the colours compliment each other well and his facial expression matches that of someone who would be running from something. I believe that I have made the extended leg a bit too long which in turn makes his torso look smaller, however I happy with how the overall composition came out as I haven’t had much practise with drawing a full cartoon style figure before without struggling with where the feet should go.

The above image I would say is my least favourite of all the concepts I have done thus far, it isn’t so much his posture or his expression but how the background looks with it. It isn’t as complimentary as the other backgrounds are in the other images, and the yellow I used by mistake looks more orange in comparison to the other outcomes.

Acetate Sheets.

Once I have my acetate sheets (pending delivery), I will choose the ones that I think worked best and print them out to see how the design and colours look on them.

The image above I think is one of the more successful outcomes of this image. Because of the way I altered the saturation and by also using the select colour setting, I was able to explore more into the different gradients and layers of the image. The way that the shadowing is more on the right side of the image with the film reels, it added more to the dark shroud which I think works well with the image.

With these two images I put the saturation of each image the highest it can go whilst altering the overall colours, whilst the images are very pixelated and not the most visually pleasing, but I do like the idea of the images being at the end if the slides where it becomes disoriented and confusing.

Annotation

Whilst this image is only of the yellow outline, I do like how you can still see who it is meant to be within the image. The lines within the yellow also help to break up the image more.
